Experiencing the land and getting involved.
In the coming months and years (because honestly, projects of this magnitude take time), there will be many opportunities to participate in visioning the future of Fly Ranch. We will need a wide range of time, energy, expertise, and ideas.
We’ve had almost 3,000 people sign up to get involved through our participation page. Starting in Fall 2017, we would like to start offering experiential nature walks to introduce people to the land, and will soon have a website ready for scheduling visits.
There are several ways to visit Fly Ranch. But you ‘gotta plan ahead.
Fly Ranch is not available for drop-in public access and trespassing will not be tolerated. Seriously.
The local conservation group Friends of Black Rock-High Rock hosts weekly Nature Walks on the property. These 3-hour, device-free adventures are a participatory, immersive, and land-connected experience and are not a tourist trip to get a photo op with the geyser. How we introduce the land sets an important precedent for how people think of and interact with the land. If you would like to join a Nature Walk, you can head on over to the reservation page.
You can also volunteer for monthly Work Weekend campouts, small gatherings, and other onsite volunteer opportunities by signing up for the Fly Ranch newsletter below.
Our intention is to make the property increasingly accessible to the public in the future in an ongoing and sustainable way. In 2019 we will be prototyping new programs such as group trips, overnight stays, and camping. Want to learn more? Read the Fly Ranch Roadmap.
Like Black Rock City, Fly Ranch is a collaborative endeavor requiring a vast array of skills, ideas, and contributions and community participation will be essential. You want to get involved? Great!
